Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Travis Dermott has found himself on the waiver wire on Tuesday afternoon for the second time since the middle of December.

Travis Dermott began the season with the Edmonton Oilers after earning a one-year deal following a PTO, but after just two months, he was placed on waivers and claimed by the Minnesota Wild.

Travis Dermott placed on waivers on Tuesday by Minnesota Wild

In a post on social media, TSN hockey insider Chris Johnston shared that the Minnesota Wild have decided to place Travis Dermott on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League.
If Dermott clears waivers on Wednesday at 11 am PT, then he'll be assigned to the Iowa Wild, and would be set for his first action in the AHL since the 2022-23 season when he played one game for Abbotsford.
"Travis Dermott (MIN) has been placed on waivers." Johnston said.
The Minnesota Wild were dealt a massive blow on Tuesday as Michael Russo of The Athletic announced that the club has placed forward Joel Eriksson Ek on injured reserve.
Russo added that by placing Travis Dermott on waivers, it'll open up a spot on the NHL roster for the Minnesota Wild to bring an extra forward on their upcoming two-game road trip to Utah and Colorado.
"Travis Dermott has been placed on waivers by #mnwild. This will allow them to bring an extra forward on the upcoming road trip." Russo said on X.
Dermott, 28, has appeared in 19 games this season between the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild where he's failed to record any points, with two penalty minutes and is a minus-three.
He spent parts of two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks in 2021-22 and 2022-23, registering three points (two goals, one assist), two penalty minutes and was a plus-one in 28 games.
The Newmarket, Ontario native could be an intriguing third pairing/seventh defenseman option for teams around the National Hockey League, including the Vancouver Canucks, with a low cap hit of $775,000 USD.
