Just days after sharing that the Canucks would be interested in bringing Chatfield back if he became an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, Rick Dhaliwal is now reporting that he will be re-signing with the Carolina Hurricanes.
UPDATE: According to Frank Seravalli, the Hurricanes and Jalen Chatfield have agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth $9 million ($3 million AAV).
Chatfield, 28, had the best year of his National Hockey League career during the 2023-24 season. He appeared in 72 games for the Hurricanes, putting up 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-15. He went on to add two assists in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Ypsilanti, Michigan native spent parts of four seasons with the Vancouver Canucks organization and appeared in 18 games for the big club in the NHL. Chatfield wasn't re-signed by the Canucks in 2021 and ultimately joined the Carolina Hurricanes.
With the Canucks set to lose some defenceman to the free agent market this summer including Ian Cole and potentially Nikita Zadorov too, Patrik Allvin may be busy on July 1st trying to fill holes on the team's blue line.
