While it's hard to put the blame solely on Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell, especially considering that their defensive group hasn't been great either, but both goaltenders certainly haven't helped the team.
In seven games, Skinner has a record of 1-4-1 with a 3.99 goals against average and an .856 save percentage, while Campbell has a 1-4-0 record along with a 4.50 goals against average and an .873 save percentage.
In the aftermath of their loss to the Canucks on Monday, the Oilers decided to place Jack Campbell and his $5 million cap hit on the waiver wire. It's unlikely that Campbell will be claimed off waivers due to his salary, which will allow him to go to the American Hockey League's Bakersfield Condors to work on his game.
The Oilers are hoping that the tandem of Campbell and Skinner will be able to turn things around as wasting a year of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl's prime is not an option. But could General Manager Ken Holland go out on the trade market and search for an upgrade? It's certainly possible and an option that he should definitely consider.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period made a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday following the news of Jack Campbell on waivers, wondering if the Oilers could go out and make a trade for a local goaltender, Carter Hart.
Carter Hart would certainly be an interesting option for the Edmonton Oilers as it's been reported that the Flyers are willing to listen to offers on him, but the price could be pretty high.
Would Carter Hart be a good fit for the Edmonton Oilers or should they continue to trust the tandem of Campbell and Skinner? Let us know what you think in the poll below!
