The New Jersey Devils took on the Colorado Avalanche in Denver on Tuesday night and things got pretty heated following a hit from behind from Ross Colton on Quinn Hughes' brother, Luke.

The incident occurred just over half-way through the second period last night. As Luke Hughes went to retrieve the puck, Ross Colton came in from behind and hit him right on the numbers. Hughes would leave the game briefly, before returning.

After the hit, a scrum ensued, which saw Ross Colton get in even more trouble than he already was in. Colton cross-checked Timo Meier right in the face and after cooler heads prevailed, he was ejected from the game.

According to the NHL's official game sheet, Colton was handed a two-minute minor for boarding on Hughes, as well as a five-minute major and game misconduct for cross-checking on Meier.

There's no doubt that the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety will be taking a look at this on Wednesday and it's probably safe to assume that Colton will have a hearing.
