Ex-Vancouver Canucks defenseman Travis Dermott is on his way back to one of his former Canadian teams after being claimed off waivers on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, after just nine games with the club, the Minnesota Wild announced that they've placed Travis Dermott on wavers, with the hopes he would clear and he could be assigned to the AHL's Iowa Wild.

In a post on social media, TSN hockey insider Chris Johnston shared that the Edmonton Oilers have claimed Travis Dermott off waivers from the Minnesota Wild.
"Edmonton reclaims Travis Dermott off waivers from Minnesota." Johnston said.
The Oilers confirmed the news in a post of their own shortly after, welcoming the 28-year-old back to the organization after they signed him in October following a strong showing on a PTO.
"Welcome back, Travis Dermott!

The #Oilers have claimed the left-shot defenceman via waivers from Minnesota." the Oilers said.
Dermott, a native of Newmarket, Ontario, signed a professional tryout contract with Edmonton just before training camp and after ten games with them, GM Stan Bowman decided to place him on waivers, where he was claimed by Minnesota.
In 19 games this season between the Edmonton Oilers and Minnesota Wild, Dermott hasn't recorded any points, while adding two penalty minutes and is a minus-three.
By bringing back Travis Dermott via a waiver claim, the Edmonton Oilers have now addressed the need for some depth on the blue line and realistically, he'll probably get into about 10-12 games before the end of the regular season.
With a depth defenseman now added to the roster, it's going to be interesting to see what else the Edmonton Oilers do between now and the trade deadline next Friday, as they could have some money to work with given that Evander Kane remains on LTIR.
Dermott and the Edmonton Oilers will be back in action on Thursday night as they continue their road trip in Sunrise as they take on the Florida Panthers.
