It's confirmed for Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers: The bank is about to break
Ever since the season ended for the Oilers, all heads have turned to Leon Draisaitl whose future in Edmonton has yet to be decided.
The Oilers were as close as it gets to win the NHL's greatest of honours but fell short in game seven. They went on to free agency and spent heavily notably acquiring Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson to bolster up their forward group, but the star German Leon Draisaitl has yet to fully commit to the team and the city.
A source close to the team spoke with Draisaitl's agent and it was revealed that despite the most recent speculation, Draisaitl was willing to commit to the longest of terms. Some insiders suggested that the number 29 would be opting for a Matthews like contract for only five years, but everything points to Draisaitl taking another direction.
«I spoke to Mike Liut (Draisaitl's agent) it's going to be a 7 or 8-year deal. It's probably going to be an 8-year deal realistically»
Since the day Draisaitl joined the Oilers, he's been terrorizing opposing goalies with his sharpshooting abilities. Over the last 241 regular season games, Draisaitl scored an impressive 148 goals and 344 points. It's fair to say that he may be about to sign the NHL's wealthiest contract to date.
