Despite reports suggesting that Evander Kane will be ready for training camp, it appears that the former first-round pick may end up not being available for the Edmonton Oilers to start the season in October.
According to Bob Stauffer, he's hearing that Evander Kane there's a good chance that Evander Kane won't be ready for the start of the season and will likely end up on long-term injured reserve (LTIR).
Stauffer went on to mention in his post on social media that Evander Kane may need to undergo surgery at some point as well.
Kane, a native of Vancouver, was dealing with an injury during the 2024 Stanley Cup Final, missing games 3 through 7, as the Oilers would go on to lose to the Florida Panthers. It was a tough blow to the Oilers' top-six to lose Kane for the remainder of the Stanley Cup Final. Shortly after the season ended, it was revealed that Kane's injury was relating to his hip and it's still a bit unclear what his path to returning to the ice will look like and how many games he'll end up missing.
Last season, Kane appeared in 77 games where he put up 44 points (24 goals, 20 assists), 85 penalty minutes and was a minus-four. He went on to add eight points and 37 penalty minutes in 20 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
It's going to be interesting to see how the Edmonton Oilers deal with the potential loss of Evander Kane. If he's required to have surgery on his hip, it's probably a safe bet that he won't be back on the ice until early 2025, but it's still too soon to say for certain what his recovery/return timeline is.
