Guentzel and the Penguins have reportedly not engaged in any significant talks on a contract extension, according to The Athletic and if a team wants to acquire the 2017 Stanley Cup champion, it's going to cost a first-round pick and a 'very good prospect'.
The 29-year-old has had a pretty good season so far, putting up 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists), along with 12 penalty minutes and is a plus-six in 31 games.
While it would be nice to have Jake Guentzel in the Canucks' lineup as they look to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020, that is a steep price to pay for someone who could end up walking into free agency once the season concludes.
