The long-awaited first matchup between Connor McDavid and Connor Bedard finally came on Tuesday night, but it started too late for many hockey fans to tune in.

In his most recent 32 Thoughts blog, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman says it was a missed opportunity for the NHL to highlight arguably their two biggest stars on a bigger stage.

Connor Bedard and Connor McDavid at 10 pm ET? Come on. Should be Prime Time, nationally televised everywhere in North America,
Friedman wrote.

While some may attribute the complaint to hockey's East Coast bias, dropping the puck at 8 pm local time and losing potential viewership to a late start time is puzzling for a league struggling with marketing its product.

Both stars were on display on Tuesday, with Bedard scoring a goal and McDavid adding two assists in an Oilers 4-1 win.

The teams play again on January 9, where the puck will drop at 8:30 pm EST.
