On Saturday night, the Vancouver Canucks took on the Toronto Maple Leafs in what was a battle between a head coach and his former player - Rick Tocchet vs Max Domi.

Domi was coached by Rick Tocchet during the 2017-18 season and prior to their meeting on Saturday night, he was full of praise for his former coach, saying he's probably the best in the world right now.

""Probably one of the best coaches in the world right now ...

"You watch these guys play, they're always ready to go. That's probably going to be our biggest test tonight is matching their intensity off the puck drop" Domi said.

Domi went on to discuss how important Tocchet was to him during their time with the Arizona Coyotes.

"He builds pretty special relationships with his players He's awesome. I still talk to him every so often. Big fan of him as a human being ... He helped me out a lot & really showed me the ropes ..." Domi said.

Under Rick Tocchet during the 2017-18 season, which was Domi's last with the Arizona Coyotes before being traded to the Montreal Canadiens, the 28-year-old had 45 points (nine goals, 36 assists) in 82 games.

When Domi says Tocchet is the best coach in the world right now, he's probably right, especially when considering what he's done in his first 12 months with the Canucks. As of Sunday morning, the Canucks sit first in the NHL standings with a 31-11-4 record, seven wins away from matching their win total from the 2022-23 season. There's no doubt that right now, Tocchet is the front-runner for the Jack Adams Award, which will be handed out in June.
