LATEST | Canucks prospect scores coast-to-coast overtime winner
When teams select players in the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft, they're hoping that they will, at the least, play for their American Hockey League affiliate in the years following them being picked. But for the Canucks, they may have struck gold with their 2022 seventh-round pick.
In the seventh round, 208th overall, the Canucks selected Russian defenceman
Kirill Kudryavtsev. On Saturday night, the 19-year-old scored an incredible coast-to-coast overtime winner for his Ontario Hockey League club, the Soo Greyhounds.
Kudryavtsev took the puck in his end, skated through the neutral zone, split the defencemen, then put the puck from his backhand to his forehand before firing past the blocker side of the Flint Firebirds goaltender to give the Greyhounds a 6-5 win.
"KIRILL - THE THRILL - KUDRYAVTSEV
He goes coast to coast and calls the game!!!
He had a goal and two assists. #Canucks"
Following his three-point night, Kudryavtsev is now up to 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) and is a plus-nine, with no penalty minutes, in 14 games with the Greyhounds. His overtime goal on Saturday gave the Greyhounds their ninth win of the season to extend their lead atop the West Division standings with a record of 9-5-0.
