LATEST | Elias Pettersson's contractual situation could lead Patrik Allvin into a wild shopping spree
If the Vancouver Canucks had it their way, Elias Pettersson would be inked to a long-term contract already.
Inside Elliotte Friedman said on the 32 Thoughts podcast that he's "tired of talking about Pettersson", but says the player's contract uncertainty is expected to inform the Canucks plans for this season.
If you have any reason to believe that you can't get Pettersson signed long-term, then you probably have to go for it this year,
Friedman said.
Friedman says he expects the Canucks to take another run at resigning EP40, but that the star forward could very likely continue to punt the negotiations.
He added that the Canucks feel confident they'll be able to get a deal done, but if there's any doubt whatsoever - he thinks the Canucks may be forced to go all in for the cup this year.
The Canucks are second in the entire league at the midway point of the season, and have 8 skaters on expiring contracts.
