According to reports, former Vancouver Canucks forward Michael Chaput has had his contract terminated by KHL club Barys Astana just weeks after re-signing with them for the 2023-24 season.

The reason why Chaput has had his contract terminated is due to new information coming out about an ongoing injury he's dealing with. Chaput's recovery from his injury is expected to take longer than expected, which led to both sides agreeing to a mutual contract termination.

"#Barys Astana (#KHL) and forward 🇨🇦Michael Chaput have mutually cut ties just a few weeks after signing a new 1-year contract.

Chaput, 31, played just 10 games last season due to an ongoing injury. It was discovered that his recovery and rehab will take significantly longer than previously expected - resulting in the termination." Hockey Worldwide said in an Instagram post.

The Ile Bizard, Quebec native suited up for 77 games for the Canucks in the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, recording nine points (four goals, five assists), 34 penalty minutes and was a minus-16.
