LATEST | Important development on the trade market: Canucks and Flames linked in another trade
Nearly two months ago, the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames came together to complete a trade that saw defenceman Nikita Zadorov land in British Columbia.
But now, it appears that the two teams could be linked together once again ahead of the trade deadline on Friday, March 8th.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Calgary Flames pending unrestricted free agent forward Elias Lindholm would be a good fit for the Vancouver Canucks and mentions a reason why is that the two teams have already done a deal this season.
"The reason I mention Lindholm, 1) VAN & CGY have done a deal this year...The why Rutherford and Allvin do business, they make deals and I find it very hard to believe that they wouldn't call Calgary and say, okay what are you thinking here?" Friedman said.
He added, "...it's circumstantial evidence, but I think it's good circumstantial evidence"
Lindholm, 29, is having a bit of a down year for a Flames team that isn't performing up to expectations. In 45 games so far, the Boden, Sweden native has 30 points (eight goals, 22 assists), along with 21 penalty minutes and is a minus-six.
It's unclear what the cost to acquire Elias Lindholm may be, but it could be quite high given his importance to the Calgary Flames and they would like to bring back assets rather than have him walk for nothing once the season ends. If the cost is less than the reported asking price of an NHL-ready player, top prospect and first-round pick that the Penguins want for Jake Guentzel, Allvin and Co. should jump all over it.
