LATEST | Newly-signed Canuck Pius Suter reveals why he chose Vancouver
On Friday, the Vancouver Canucks added some much needed help in the faceoff dot and on the penalty kill by inking Pius Suter to a two-year contract worth $3.2 million ($1.6 million AAV).
After signing with the Canucks, Suter discussed his decision on why he chose Vancouver and what he can bring to the team for the next couple of seasons. Suter says that he is versatile and can play any forward position the team feels he would be best in.
"I can play any of the three positions. I have in the past, all three of them, sometimes in the same game. So, we'll see how it goes and I've just got to show what I can bring to the table in training camp." Suter said.
He went on to add, "It has been a longer six weeks than usual to be honest. I'm not going to lie about that. The Canucks always showed interest right from the beginning and I could tell they had done work on me and at the end, that is what excites me the most [about the opportunity]. I'm excited to find out where I'm going and I'm excited to get started."
The Zurich, Switzerland native came over to the NHL ahead of the shortened 2021 season after spending several years playing professionally in his home country. Suter has appeared in 216 career games in the NHL with Chicago and Detroit where he's recorded 87 points (43 goals, 44 assists), 42 penalty minutes and is a minus-19.
It's going to be interesting to see how the Canucks utilize Suter during training camp and pre-season games, which are just over one month away!
