LATEST | Sam Lafferty issues his first statement as a Canuck
Over the weekend, the Vancouver made an addition to their bottom-six forward group by acquiring Sam Lafferty from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.
On Wednesday, Sam Lafferty issued his first comments as a member of the Canucks ahead of tonight's season-opening game against the Edmonton Oilers.
Lafferty said he excited to be apart of the team and what General Manager Patrik Allvin is trying to build in Vancouver.
"Speaking to Patrik Allvin when I got traded, he told me what he's trying to build here and the culture that he's trying to build and I'm just really excited for that." Lafferty said.
Lafferty brings a lot to the Canucks' bottom-six forward group including speed and grit and has the ability to play up and down the lineup and could feature on the team's penalty killing unit.
"Going through discussions with coaching staff this summer, the options of line combinations, and how we performed early on in preseason I wanted to be a little bit harder to play against, a little bit stiffer with the puck. When Sam became available, we talked and we felt that he's another guy that can play in different positions in the bottom six and brings that speed, grit, versatility to the team," Patrik Allvin said.
Lafferty is set to make his debut with the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 7 p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET against Edmonton. Tune in across the Sportsnet network of channels to view the game.
