LATEST | Veteran Ian Cole comments on the opportunity to play under Rick Tocchet: Promising words from a Stanley Cup winner
Patrik Allvin and the Canucks emerged huge in this year's free-agent frenzy. They added valuable and experienced assets at a very low-risk cost.
Today, Ian Cole gave his first interview under his new colours, and it sheds quite the spotlight on the Canucks' Head Coach Rick Tocchet:
'You can't argue with his resume as a player, and as a coach; he has a very similar summary.
He's intense and detailed, and expects you to sacrifice and play at the level that he sacrificed and played at, and I think from a guy with that background and pedigree, it's tough to make the argument not to step up to that standard.''
Now 34 years old, Cole has built quite his resume and reputation. He is a two-time Stanley Cup winner who's had the opportunity to play alongside many of the game's very best, like Sidney Crosby and Nathan Mackinnon. Hearing him commenting on the team coach undoubtedly better explains the reasoning behind Allvin and Rutherford's selection.
Under a one-year-deal, there is still uncertainty as to the precise role he'll have on the Canucks' defensive core. One thing is sure: he'll solidify and help the penalty kill.
