MAJOR | Insider drops huge piece of information regarding Filip Hronek's contract: The Canucks are in trouble
Filip Hronek has been a revelation this season on the Canucks blueline, and it might result in a VERY lucrative contract.
Some questioned the Canucks acquisition of the defenseman for a 1st and 2nd round pick at last year's deadline, but this season he's quieted doubters playing next to Quinn Hughes.
On Thursday's episode of the DFO Rundown Podcast, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli said that Hronek's value has only gone up this season, and he could even become the team's highest paid player - at least until Elias Pettersson signs.
I don't think the number starts with a 7,
Seravalli said.
It's no news for Canucks fans... it's not going to be cheap.
Seravalli said he expects it to be higher than an AAV in the $7 millions, with Hronek on pace for 80 points and playing over 24 minutes a game.
The Daily Faceoff reporter has stood by Hronek's value on a new deal for a while, saying just two weeks after the Canucks acquired him that a new deal would surely be in the 7s and potentially the 8s depending on Hronek's play with his new team.
Many have looked at Devon Toews' 7 year contract extension that pays him $7.25 million annually as a potential comparable for Hronek.
Some fans say they'd like to see Hronek play consistently away from Quinn Hughes to further evaluate his play before the team signs him to a massive deal.
In any case, the Canucks will have to be prepared to give the 26 year old a significant raise this summer.
