Surprise announcement from the league coming: Good news for the Canucks and Elias Pettersson
The National Hockey League led its season-opening Board of Governors, during which many important topics were discussed. Following the meeting, Gary Bettman revealed a massive piece of information regarding the upcoming salary cap increases:
''Gary Bettman after Board of Governors meeting says he told owners the very preliminary revenue projections suggests a salary cap bump to between $87 M and $88 M for 2024-25 next year''
After the last few years' stagnant cap, that's exciting news for the league and its teams.
2021 - 81,5 million
2022 - 82,5 million
2023 - 83,5 million
2024 - 87,5 million
Amid extension talks with a superstar like Elias Pettersson, it can mean one of two things. The player could ask for more money, or the team has more flexibility to convince their superstar and bring more talent.
If Pettersson remains reasonable in his ask, the Canucks could wind up entering the free agency market with a LOT more money than anticipated. It'll be interesting to see how that unfolds.
