A Canadiens fan account on Twitter by the name of 'Hockey Night in Montreal' has proposed a trade between the Habs and Vancouver Canucks that would see Thatcher Demko take over the crease at the Bell Centre.
Their trade proposal is the following:
To Montreal: Thatcher Demko, 2024 third-round pick.
To Vancouver: Samuel Montembeault, 2025 first-round pick, 2024 second-round pick, 2025 second-round pick.
So far, the results of their poll are leaning towards the Canadiens who would say no in this potential deal, which is a bit shocking to be honest. The Canadiens' prospect depth at the goaltending position is pretty thin, although they have a couple names to keep an eye on - Jakub Dobes and Jacob Fowler.
As all Canucks fans know, Demko is undoubtedly a top-ten goaltender in the National Hockey League and is only 27-years-old. It's safe to say that the Canucks wouldn't want to move Demko and if this scenario was brought to them in real life, Patrik Allvin would hang up the phone pretty quickly.
Moving Demko and replacing him with Samuel Montembeault would be a big downgrade. No disrespect to Samuel Montembeault or anything, he was very good for a Canadiens team that finished with the fifth-worst record in the NHL last season and was also a key part of Canada's gold medal win at the World Championship in May. But as a replacement for Thatcher Demko, it certainly wouldn't be ideal for the Canucks.
If you were Patrik Allvin, would you take this deal or would you hang up right away? Let us know what you think in the poll below!
