Tom Willander and Boston University are gearing up for their Hockey East playoff tournament beginning with a Quarter-Final game on Saturday and with their season starting to wind down,
we're getting a lot closer to the Swede signing his entry-level contract.
On the eve of Boston University's Quarter-Final game against the University of Massachusetts Amhurst, Tom Willander has earned a big honour from Hockey East - the conference that his school plays in.
Tom Willander named to Hockey East All-Star Team
On Friday afternoon, Hockey East announced that Vancouver Canucks prospect Tom Willander has been named to their Second All-Star Team for the 2024-25 season.
Also on the Second All-Star Team with Willander are goaltender Albin Boija, defenseman Guillaume Richard, along with forwards Quinn Hutson, Joey Muldowney and North Vancouver native Hudson Schandor.
"Named to the All-Hockey East Second Team are goaltender Albin Boija (Sundsvall, Sweden/Maine), defensemen Tom Willander (Stockholm, Sweden/Boston University) and Guillaume Richard (Québec, Que./Providence), and forwards Quinn Hutson (North Barrington, Ill./Boston University), Joey Muldowney (Lake View, N.Y./UConn) and Hudson Schandor (North Vancouver, B.C./UConn)." Hockey East said.
Following the news, both Boston University and the Vancouver Canucks shared social media posts highlighting the 2023 11th overall pick for the accomplishment.
"Willander's an All-Star! 🌟
Congrats to #Canucks prospect Tom Willander on being named to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team!" the Canucks said.
"Willander is perhaps the best two-way defenseman in all of college hockey. He has totaled 21 points on two goals and 19 assists as a sophomore and enters the weekend as a plus-16. He is one of just seven defensemen in the NCAA and the only Hockey East blue liner to have at least 21 points and be a plus-16 or better this season." Boston University said.
The Stockholm, Sweden native has appeared in 33 games this season for Boston University where he's put up 21 points (two goals, 19 assists), eight penalty minutes and is a plus-16.
Willander and Boston University will be in action this afternoon at 1:30 pm PT as they take on the University of Massachusetts Amhurst, with the winner advancing to Hockey East's Semi-Final round next Thursday.
