The Vancouver Canucks hit the links on Monday morning for their annual Jake Milford Golf Tournament for charity and several members of the team met with the media before teeing off, including Brock Boeser.
Boeser had a tough end to the team's run in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The 27-year-old missed Game 7 of their second-round series against the Edmonton Oilers with a blood clotting issue and even if the Canucks were to win that game, he wouldn't have been able to return. It was a crushing blow for the Canucks as Boeser had the most goals for them during the regular season and playoffs.
The blood clotting issue was caused from a blocked shot in Game 1 of their series against the Oilers. Boeser said he had a bruise from the blocked shot and after a week, he was still feeling pain and upon examination, it was found he had a blood clot in a small vein. Because it was in a small vein, he was allowed to continue playing, but after having a scan following Game 6, it was determined that the blood clot had moved to a deep vein, forcing his season to come to an end.
While at the golf tournament, Boeser told reporters that he is no longer on blood thinners and is able to take contact now. He added that throughout the season, his situation will need to be monitored and he'll need to be careful while on team flights.
It's going to be a big season for Brock Boeser. With a 40-goal campaign under his belt and him entering a contract year, expectations are high for him to deliver and drive the Canucks' offense this season. If Boeser is able to have another 35-40+ goal season, he could be in line for a big payday next summer.
