Former Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau recently shared some interesting news about a discussion with management regarding Quinn Hughes.

Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes is coming off his first career Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman and seems in the driver's seat for this season's award too, but is there chance we could've seen him change positions?

Bruce Boudreau says Vancouver Canucks discussed changing Quinn Hughes' position

While a guest on The Sheet With Jeff Marek, former Vancouver Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau touched on a number of topics ranging from the feud between J.T. Miller & Elias Pettersson and the discussions the club had about changing Quinn Hughes' position.
Boudreau told Jeff Marek that the there were about two or three conversations the club had with him about moving Quinn Hughes from defense to center, with the first time coming from someone in the management group.
"Listen have you ever thought about putting Quinn in Center?" Boudreau said.
There aren't many prominent players that have gone from playing defense to forward, but the most notable was Hall of Famer Red Kelly who moved to center when he was dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 1959-60 season.
Kelly was one of the league's best defensemen during the 1950s, winning the Norris Trophy in 1954 with the Detroit Red Wings and went on to win a Lady Byng, along with four more Stanley Cups with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ultimately, Quinn Hughes remained on the blueline and now under Rick Tocchet, it doesn't seem like a change of position is in the cards for the 25-year-old.
It would've been interesting to see Quinn Hughes play at center, potentially with Elias Pettersson and Brock Boeser or J.T. Miller as his wingers as it could've created an offensive trio that many teams would have a hard time shutting down at the time.
Quinn Hughes would've been more than capable of handling the responsibilities that come with being a centerman including the defensive aspect, but the biggest struggle could've come in the face-off dot.
