As the calendar flipped to December, families across the globe are getting ready to celebrate the holiday season, but for hockey fans, this time means one thing - the World Junior Hockey Championship.
For the first time since the 2009 tournament, Canada's capital, Ottawa, will host the event.
That year, the World Juniors brought many moments that'll stick with fans for the rest of their lives including Jordan Eberle's game-tying goal with five seasons remaining against Russia in the semi-finals, as well as John Tavares' hat trick against the United States on New Year's Eve.
On Monday, Hockey Canada announced their 32-player selection camp roster for the 2025 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship and this year's roster is going to be quite deep to say the least.
Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio was one of the ten defensemen named to the roster, a big opportunity for the Kamloops, British Columbia native.
In 15 games for the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds this season, Mynio has 17 points (four goals, 13 assists), 16 penalty minutes and has an even-rating.
Also on Canada's selection camp roster this season is 11 first-round picks including Sam Dickinson (SJS), Cole Beaudoin (UTA), Easton Cowan (TOR), Berkly Catton (SEA), and Brayden Yager (WIN - traded by PIT).
Canada's selection camp roster also features a pair of top prospects for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft - Matthew Schaefer and Porter Martone, as well as a big name for 2026 - Gavin McKenna.
There are plenty of notable snubs from Canada's selection camp roster including Michael Misa (2025), Michael Hage (MTL), Carter Yakemchuk (OTT), Beckett Sennecke (ANA) and Liam Greentree (LAK).
All five of the names listed above will definitely be involved for the 2026 World Juniors as Hockey Canada typically focuses on 19-year-old players for the tournament, along with a handful of 18-year-olds and an occasional 17-year-old, who, unless your name is Connor Bedard, usually plays as the 13th forward or seventh defenseman.
Canada's World Junior Selection Camp will get underway on December 10th and run through December 13th before roster cuts will be made by the management group.
The tournament will officially get underway on Boxing Day, December 26th, with Canada taking on Finland at 4:30 pm PT/7:30 pm ET on TSN.
