The Vancouver Canucks Playoffs Chances Are Officially in Danger
Just two months into the NHL season, the Vancouver Canucks have already seen their chances at making the Stanley Cup playoffs drop significantly.
Although still young into the season with a lot of hockey left to be played, where the Vancouver Canucks sit in the standing is not where they thought coming into the 2024-2025 NHL season.
By winning the Pacific division last season and having their playoff run cut short by their star goalie Thatcher Demko going down with an injury, the expectations for this season were sky high.
Whether or not it is due to coaching, bad play, or the mass amount of absences that include, Brock Boeser, J.T. Miller and Thatcher Demko, t playing below what many believed what could be their year.
At the start of the season, MoneyPuck gave the Canucks a hefty 80.4% chance at making the postseason. This made sense as the team was coming off an incredible 2023-24 season that saw them finish first in the Pacific Division with a 50-23-9 record and 109 points. That ranked as the third-best season in franchise history.
Vancouver Canucks are seeing their playoff chances plummet
Now, using the same metrics by MoneyPuck, their chances of making the Stanley Cup Playoffs has decreased from 80.4% to 52.7%.
It is not helping their chances that the other teams in their division are sitting in a great spot.
The Los Angeles Kings have the highest odds with 90.8%, in second are the Edmonton Oilers with a 87.8%, the Vegas Golden Knights with a 85.1%.
Then, there is Vancouver and Calgary at the bottom, where the Canucks hold a slight edge over the Flames.
The good news is that, they are still with out 2 of their best players that should be returning soon and that there is still a lot of hocket left. The Canucks still have a chance, but their issues come playing at home.
They are only 3-5-3 at home, which has been the main reason for their issues, if they can figure how to play in Rogers Arena and make a trade for a second pairing defenseman, the Canucks will be able to make a run this season.
