Canucks captain Quinn Hughes on the brink of team history

It didn't take long for Vancouver captain Quinn Hughes to climb his way into the Canucks' record books.
During Saturday's 2-1 overtime win against the San Jose Sharks, Quinn Hughes matched Alexander Edler for the most career points by a defenceman in Vancouver Canucks history.
Hughes notched his 409th point with a secondary assist on the overtime winner, a goal credited to Jake DeBrusk assisted by Brock Boeser, and Hughes with his 60th assist of the season.
Adam Kierszenblat from The Hockey News writes that Hughes' assist was historic for several reasons. Not only did it tie him with Edler for the most points by a defenceman in Canucks history, but it also marked the 350th assist of his NHL career, making him just the fifth defenceman in league history to reach that milestone before the age of 26.
"Hughes also became the first player in franchise history under 26 to record 350 assists, while his 409 points are the fourth most by a Canucks player before their 26th birthday." -Kierszenblat
Now in his seventh NHL season, Quinn Hughes has firmly established himself as one of the league's elite defencemen. With 76 points in 67 games, he currently ranks third among all blueliners in scoring this season.

The Vancouver Canucks will close out their 2024-25 regular season on Wednesday night at home against the Vegas Golden Knights.
With puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. PT at Rogers Arena, all eyes will be on Quinn Hughes as he looks to break the franchise record for most points by a defenceman.
