The son of a former Vancouver Canucks defenseman was selected in the second round of the Ontario Hockey League's Priority Draft on Friday night.
2025 has been a busy year for the families of former Vancouver Canucks players, including Kevin Bieksa, who's son
signed with a BCHL club back at the end of February.
This weekend, the Ontario Hockey League is holding their 15-round Priority Selection Draft as teams look to bolster their roster for next season and beyond and for one former Vancouver Canuck, he must be smiling ear-to-ear following an announcement last night.
Son of defenseman Adrian Aucoin selected in OHL Draft last night
Ontario Hockey League Commissioner Bryan Crawford stepped to the podium last night to announce each team's selection and with the 26th overall pick, the Sarnia Sting picked Kaden Aucoin, son of ex-Canucks defenseman, Adrian Aucoin.
"And with the 26th overall pick, we're proud to select Kaden Aucoin! Welcome to Sting Nation 🐝!" The Sting said on X.
Sarnia Sting General Manager Dylan Seca was full of praise for Kaden Aucoin's game, saying he's a smooth-skating defenseman who competes hard and has the potential to be a high-end defender in the Ontario Hockey League.
"Kaden is a smooth-skating, right-handed defenceman who matches the identity we're building. He checks all the boxes-he competes hard, defends well, and has excellent instincts. We believe he has the potential to be a high-end defender in our league." Seca said.
Kaden Aucoin spent the 2024-25 season with the Chicago Mission in the United States, which is one of the top development programs for players under the age of 18 in all of North America, with some alumni including
William Nylander,
Christian Dvorak and
Nick Schmaltz.
Kaden's father, Adrian, was selected by the Vancouver Canucks in the fifth round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft and went on to spent parts of seven season in the NHL with them, recording 120 points (49 goals, 71 assists), 245 penalty minutes and was a plus-11.
During his time in the NHL, Aucoin would also suit up for the Tampa Bay Lightning, New York Islanders, Chicago Blackhawks, Calgary Flames, Phoenix Coyotes and the Columbus Blue Jackets before retiring from hockey following the 2012-13 season.
