Canucks Captain Quinn Hughes Shows Intense Frustration With Rookie Defenseman Victor Mancini

The Vancouver Canucks wrapped up a back-to-back on Sunday night as they welcomed Utah Hockey Club to Rogers Arena for the first time for a game with massive playoff implications.

A win would've seen Vancouver's playoff odds jump to slightly above 52%, while a loss in regulation saw those odds drop to 30.7%.

During the latter stages of the first period of Sunday's game, the Vancouver Canucks were cycling the puck in Utah's zone and when it makes its way to Victor Mancini at the point, Quinn Hughes was trying desperately to get pass from his teammate.

Sportsnet's cameras show Quinn Hughes banging his stick on the ice three times in an attempt to alert Victor Mancini that he's open.

Instead, Mancini shot the puck, which took a redirection and went into Utah's corner for a turnover.

While Quinn Hughes was likely frustrated that Victor Mancini didn't pass him the puck, the rookie defenseman made the right call as if he were to attempt to get it to his captain, it likely would've been picked off by either Lawson Crouse or potentially even the speedy Josh Doan.

Quinn Hughes would go on to open the scoring on the power play early in the second period, which marked his 16th of the season, one back of tying his career-high in goals which was 17 during the 2023-24 campaign.

Unfortunately for Hughes and the Canucks, that was the only goal scored by the team last night as they fell to Utah Hockey Club by a score of 3-1, however, they remain in the second wild card spot, for now.

The Canucks will be back in action tomorrow night as they host the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets for a 7 pm PT puck drop.
