Chris Tanev's Father Reveals How the Vancouver Canucks Did Him Dirty

The Vancouver Canucks made no secret of pursuing Chris Tanev both at the trade deadline and as a free agent, and Tanev's father told the Donnie and Dhali show that the fan favourite almost made his way back to Vancouver this summer.
The Canucks have helped to stabilize their blueline with the acquisition and
recent signing of D Marcus Pettersson, but Chris Tanev also being a part of the team's top four would put it among the league's best.
Chris Tanev's father tells Donnie and Dhali about ups and downs with Vancouver
On Friday morning's episode of
Donnie and Dhali The Team, Chris Tanev's father Mike Tanev joined the program to discuss his son's time in Vancouver.
Chris spent the formative years of his career in Vancouver, spending his first ten seasons as a pro in the organization and becoming a bonafide top four, shutdown defenseman.
And while he was a huge part of the Canucks team up until his departure as a free agent in the summer of 2020, Mike Tanev says his son wasn't even offered a deal by the team.
Hey, they didn't offer him a contract, - Mike Tanev
The Vancouver Canucks had turned their focus to goaltender
Jacob Markstrom in that offseason, and simply "ran out of time" to get something done with fellow free agents Chris Tanev and
Tyler Toffoli - instead losing all three players to free agency.
Reunion was on the table last offseason
The Vancouver Canucks attempted to acquire Chris Tanev again during last season, but couldn't get a deal done and instead ended up with just
Elias Lindholm and
Nikita Zadorov from the Calgary Flames - unable to get all three.
Tanev's father said even though Vancouver didn't even offer him a deal all those years ago, he thought about returning.
When Chris went to Dallas, we had a decision to make this summer. There were three teams... I can tell you [Vancouver] was one of the three teams that Christopher had to choose from - Mike Tanev
Maybe the 35 year old was always going to end up heading home to Toronto, but the Canucks would have loved to have his stabilizing presence this year and in the future.
