As Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks continue to look for upgrades in the trade market in order to make a run for the Playoffs, the Philadelphia Flyers have now issued their asking price for the 30-year-old veteran.
Now, the Canucks may be able to make another deal, this time with the Philadelphia Flyers as the asking price for veteran forward
Scott Laughton has been released.
Asking price for Philadelphia Flyers' Scott Laughton revealed
An important caveat to be made first is that while Laughton's name has been dragged through the trade rumor mill for months, the Canucks have never really been linked to landing the leader.
But why wouldn't they be contenders?
According to Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco, the Philadelphia Flyers do not want to retain any of the $3 million that he is making, but the other teams originally linked to him such as the Maple Leafs and Jets do not have the cap space to comfortably acquire him.
Regardless, Di Marco said that the Flyers would like to have a player similar to Leafs Forward David Kamp in return, as his cap his is 600K less.
"If the return is sufficient enough, perhaps the Flyers would take back a player like
David Kampf and the remaining two years on his contract at a $2.4 million cap hit."
If anything, the Canucks can take on his salary and give up a forward of similar or higher value to Kampf.
Like Laughton, Teddy Bleuger is a reliable 2-way forward who can play on the wing or down the center of the ice.
He is not the highest point producer on the Canucks but contributes massively on thee penalty kill and provides secondary scoring in the bottom-6, with the ability to move up in the lineup if needed.
The bigger name out of the two available could be power forward Dakota Joshua.
After his coming out party with the Canucks during the 2023-2024 season, scoring 18 goals and 14 assists, the 28-year-old has not been able to find his game this year after returning from cancer surgery to remove a tumor.
While nether Blueger or Joshua are exact matches to Laughton, they all provide a similar role and value to their teams.
While Joshua has more upside, Laughton is the more reliable and consistent player the Canucks need.
While the Flyers may want a 1st-round pick for Laughton, the chances of them getting that in return is slim, and by offering a higher value player like Joshua, a deal could get done.
