Former Canucks Tanner Pearson lands another opportunity at the NHL level
A little under a year ago, the Canucks dangled around their cap problems by pulling what ended up being an excellent trade for the team. Tanner Pearson went from Vancouver to Montreal in exchange for Casey DeSmith.
In Montreal, the veteran collected 13 points through 54 games; at 32 years old, after his numerous injuries, it wouldn't have been surprising if he had chosen to retire.
However, the announcement just came that Pearson had landed an opportunity to show his worth at the Las Vegas Golden Knights training camp. The veteran signed agreed to a Professional Try Out with the team:
VEGAS (August 20, 2024) - Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced today, August 20, that the team has signed forward Tanner Pearson to a professional tryout agreement.
Tanner Pearson's tenure with the Vancouver Canucks was significantly impacted by injuries, particularly in his later seasons with the team. Acquired in a trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2019, Pearson initially made a solid impression, contributing as a reliable middle-six forward known for his scoring touch and experience.
However, his time with the Canucks became increasingly marred by injuries, most notably a hand injury during the 2022-2023 season that required multiple surgeries and sidelined him for an extended period. These injuries limited his effectiveness and availability, ultimately leading to speculation about his future with the team. Despite his contributions when healthy, Pearson's time in Vancouver was primarily overshadowed by these persistent health issues.
