Canucks fans got some disappointing news on Friday as it was announced that Russian defenceman Nikita Zadorov won't be returning to the organization and he will be hitting the open market as an unrestricted free agent on Monday.
Many were wondering what the offer was to Nikita Zadorov, especially since reports in recent weeks suggested that both sides were willing to compromise a bit. According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the Canucks offered Zadorov a contract that was as high as $5 million per season, but the blueliner believes he can get more on the open market next week.
Zadorov, 29, had a solid tenure for the Vancouver Canucks since his trade from the Calgary Flames back at the end of November. Zadorov skated in 54 games during the regular season for Vancouver, putting up 14 points (five goals, nine assists), 102 penalty minutes and was a plus-six. He went on to add eight points (four goals, four assists) in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
It'll be interesting to see where the Patrik Allvin and the Vancouver Canucks pivot on Monday afternoon with a hole in their top-four needing to be filled pretty quickly. It's possible Allvin addresses that need through trade if a free agent they want to target is too expensive to bring in.
