Dakota Joshua's salary on could quadruple: Insider gives his take
Dakota Joshua has taken his game to the next level and it could earn himself a big pay day this summer as he's set to become an unrestricted free agent.
While there's no doubt the Canucks will do whatever it takes to bring him back into the fold for the 2024-25 season and potentially beyond, Dakota Joshua will have interest from other National Hockey League teams this summer.
Joshua's play this season has been key for the Canucks, as he's been able to slot in any of the four forward lines with ease and come playoff time, he'll be relied on heavily, especially due to the physical presence he brings.
Right now, Joshua's value is at an all-time high and in his recent article on The Athletic, Thomas Drance shared that the Dearborn, Michigan native will likely get three or four times his current AAV of $800,000.
"Given Joshua's performance and the overall rarity of his profile particularly his size and ability to both produce offensively and play a grinding, heavy style of game his next cap hit is going to be at least three or four times as expensive as his current $800,000 deal." Drance said.
This means that Dakota Joshua could be looking at $3 million as the next average annual value on his next contract, whether that be with the Vancouver Canucks or another franchise through free agency this summer.
So far this season, the 27-year-old has put up a career-high 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists), 46 penalty minutes and is a plus-15. If he hadn't of missed six weeks with a hand injury, there's no doubt he would be pushing 20 goals and 40 points.
