The Vancouver Canucks are set to kick off a three-game road trip on Sunday evening in Anaheim and last night, Patrik Allvin announced that he was calling up a pair of players from the American Hockey League.

After assigning forward Arshdeep Bains to Abbotsford of the AHL, Allvin has called up another forward, Vasily Podkolzin, as well as veteran defenceman Matt Irwin.

"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Vasily Podkolzin and D Matt Irwin have been recalled from Abbotsford (AHL)."

Podkolzin, 22, has yet to play for the Canucks this year after appearing in a combined 118 games during the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons.

In 44 games for the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks this season, the Moscow native has 28 points (15 goals, 13 assists), 15 penalty minutes and has an even-rating.

Irwin, 36, was signed by Vancouver last season to a one-year contract but has yet to make his Canucks debut, spending all of this campaign in the minors. In 46 games with Abbotsford, Irwin has put up ten points (three goals, seven assists), 20 penalty minutes and is a plus-one.

We'll have to wait and see if Podkolzin and/or Irwin play their first game with the Canucks this season at some point on the road trip, but there's a pretty good chance it'll happen.

Puck drop for tonight's game against the Anaheim Ducks is set for 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET on Sportsnet Pacific.
