Jugpreet Bajwa fame began to grow following his third place finish out of 150 thousand contestant tv show called «Sa Re Ga Ma Pa,» which is the Indian equivalent to the oh so popular singing competition American Idol.
He has gone on to become a well loved member of the Vancouver Canucks as he is known for his incredible voice and distinct renditions of the Canadian and American National Anthems in front of the Canucks fans at Rogers Arena.
One thing that many fans may not know is that he also blind, which poses many problems and obstacles he must overcome very single day.
The 30-year-old from Vancouver is also blind after surviving retinoblastoma eye cancer when he was just six months old, resulting in both of his eyes being removed.
Not that it was the fault of his lack of vision, but while he was on his way from the seawall to the Main Street-Science World SkyTrain station, he sought out help in order to cross the Quebec Street at National Avenue.
Out of nowhere, the pair we struck by an oncoming vehicle who was not paying attention while attempting a right turn.
Although the driver was extremely remorseful, it did not change the severity and effect of the situation.
«It was a really scary situation,» Bajwa told Daily Hive. «It could have been a lot worse. It's definitely one of those things where it kind of rattles you for a bit.»
He called the moment «surreal.»
Bajwa later went on social media to explain he situation and to send out a public service announcement, asking drivers to pay attention and to not use their phone while driving.
To all the drivers out there, please don't text and drive or run a red light. Got hit by a car yesterday while walking to the skytrain and definitely feeling some more effects today. Definitely recovering though :-)
Both him and Cathy were sent to the hospital for evaluation but were later dismissed and will make a full and quick recovery.
«She was a saving grace in a lot of ways,» Bajwa said. «I feel completely horrible for her because she definitely got quite a bit of it as well.»
As for Bajwa, he says he's «doing alright.»
Bajwa is not on the schedule to sing anymore games at Rogers Arena for the remainder of the season, but we hope to see him back soon in full form.
