MAJOR | Eastern conference Team sent the Canucks a massive offer for Elias Pettersson
Elias Pettersson is negotiating a new contract with the Vancouver Canucks, and it appears the team may have forced his hand.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports that trade talks between the Carolina Hurricanes and Vancouver Canucks this week got extremely serious.
The Vancouver Canucks and Carolina Hurricanes had discussions about Elias Pettersson that advanced to a stage where both the Canucks and the player needed to make serious decisions about where their relationship was headed.
With the pressure on him, it seems Pettersson wants to stay in Vancouver, as he has permitted his agents to negotiate despite his desire to wait until the season's end.
David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period said that he believes the package could have included Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Martin Necas, who the Canes have reportedly been listening to offers.
Pagnotta added that the return would have included more pieces, potentially 1st round picks or Carolina's top defensive prospects. The Canucks were, by all accounts, ready to trade the player, and it could result in him signing long-term.
