The Vancouver Canucks are drawing some heavy criticism from fans online after a social media post regarding a jersey auction went live last night.

Fans across the world were treated to a historic moment on Sunday afternoon as Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin set the new NHL goals record at 895, passing one of the games greatest players of all time, Wayne Gretzky.
National Hockey League teams celebrated the moment as well, congratulating Alexander Ovechkin on this massive achievement, but the Vancouver Canucks took it a step further and have drawn plenty of criticism from fans on X.

Vancouver Canucks draw heavy criticism following social media post

Several hours after Alexander Ovechkin broke the NHL's all-time goal scoring record, the Vancouver Canucks made a post on their X account announcing that a jersey auction featuring 'The Great 8' is now live, with six Washington Capitals sweaters up for grabs.
"The Gr8 Ovechkin auction is now LIVE!

Place your bids to own a piece of the #Gr8ness." the Canucks said.

Understandably, fans weren't too happy with this move by the Vancouver Canucks - auctioning off jerseys of a player who's not even on their team and they made their voices heard in the comment section of that post.
This is embarrassing @fr_aquilini stop trying to make a dollar at every turn" @S_Desai said.
"Shameless, spineless money grab but what else would we expect from Francesco Aquilini." @ae_allchin said.
"You guys really selling another players jersey from a different team? So embarrassing to be a fan these days." @JordanSpinks42 said.
"Take this shit down this straight up embarrassing 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️" @Hughes43Hart said.
There doesn't appear to be a clear cut answer either on where the money raised from this jersey auction is going, but hopefully 100 percent of it is going to charity.
As of 8:30 am PT on Monday, a total of ten bids have been made on the six jerseys available with two days and 13 hours remaining in the auction.

Do you think the Vancouver Canucks crossed the line by auctioning off signed jerseys of a player not on their team?
