NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet just reinforced the rumor that Vancouver Canucks star Elias Pettersson's season could come to an end after suffering an undisclosed injury against the New York Rangers on march 22nd.
If the Vancouver Canucks were in a race to earn the final Wild Card spot in the Western Conference, these final 5 games would be absolutely crucial for Elias Pettersson to be in and push through the pain, but that is just not the case.

Considering their situation and being basically mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, to put Elias Patterson further at risk for a more severe injury does not really make a whole lot of sense.
«Pettersson has not given up hope on playing this year,» but according to an unnamed source, it is «unlikely» he will see any game action in the final stretch of the year. «Right now, at best, it's fair to say that that is uncertain,» Friedman added, which is also a fitting way to describe Elias Pettersson's 2024-2025 campaign at large.
All the reports points indicate he will be trying to return but they ultimately should just call it a season for EP40 and let him rest until next year so he can once again find his superstar caliber game.
Pettersson has struggled in more ways than one, which has been a major point of contention after signing an 8-year, $11.6 million-dollar AAV contract extension in March 2024.
If the season were to finish today, Pettersson has played 64 games this season, scoring just 15 goals and 30 assists for a career low in seasons where he has appeared in over 60 games.
