There's been lots of noise surrounding the Canucks and Elias Pettersson over the last few days. Everything points toward the relationship between the team and the player getting spicy, and to this point, nothing is going as the Canucks could've hoped.

This whole operation started going sideways when Pettersson announced during the Summer of 2023 that he'd be withholding from contract talks during the season. The Swede has, since then, been true to his word, according to many insider reports. The Canucks stated that they were at ease with their superstar's decision and that they weren't stressed at all.

Rick Dhaliwal dropped massive news today, and it confirmed an important rumour that had been floating around between the Canucks and Elias Pettersson. Not only are the Canucks getting the feeling that Pettersson isn't willing to commit long-term, but the Canucks' management is getting frustrated, and the panic is about to take over their front offices:

Canucks aren't getting any indication from Pettersson that he wants to be here long-term. There's frustration there. I have no intel he wants out.

Up until now, I always thought EP would re-sign, but I'm not so sure now.

Pettersson has developed into the Canucks' system as one of the league's very best two-way players. On the verge of putting up consecutive 100-point seasons, Pettersson will be commanding one of the league's highest cap hits, and it might be even worse if he's thinking about a shorter-term deal.

The Canucks have placed themselves in a challenging situation. After they've acquired Elias Lindholm, they're going for the cup this year. However, they still need to do a reality check about their future every once in a while and now might be the time to evaluate the full extent of their options further.
