NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman gave an update on Saturday night on the Vancouver Canucks' pursuit for help on trade market.

The Vancouver Canucks have been sniffing around on the trade market for a while now as Patrik Allvin continues to search for ways to improve the NHL roster for the 2024-25 season.

So far, the Canucks haven't been able to add any assets they've been looking for, most notably a top-four defenseman, especially after the injury to Filip Hronek.

In recent weeks, the Canucks have been linked to a number of defensemen including Marcus Pettersson, with Rasmus Andersson, MacKenzie Weegar of the Calgary Flames also mentioned as potential targets.

Elliotte Friedman shares not so great update on Canucks' search on the trade market

During Saturday Headlines in the second intermission of Hockey Night in Canada last night, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman spoke about the Vancouver Canucks and how aggressive they've been on the trade market.

Friedman said that despite Allvin being aggressive, the Canucks have made it know that they're not going to make a trade out of desperation based on their current situation on the blueline with injuries to Filip Hronek and Derek Forbort, as well as the subpar play of others.

"Vancouver's down defensemen. They've also struggled a bit defensively. They have one of the most aggressive front offices in the league, everybody knows it. Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin, they're not afraid to do anything. They have made it very clear, 'We're not going to do something just because other people think we're desperate.'" Friedman said.

He went on to add, "The Canucks have indicated, 'Yes, we're looking, but we're not going to do anything because people think we're desperate.'"

It's going to be interesting to see what the plan going forward is for Patrik Allvin on the trade market as it's clear as day - they need a top-four defenseman, badly.

The Canucks, along with all 31 other NHL teams, will only have another 19 days to make any trades before the league's holiday roster freeze takes place from December 20th to 27th.
