It's been a historic day at Little Ceasars Arena in downtown Detroit as the Vancouver Canucks and captain Quinn Hughes were in town for the fifth game of their six-game road trip.
Coming into the game, Quinn Hughes needed just one assist to break the Vancouver Canucks all-time assist record by a defenseman and well, it didn't take him too long to get the job done.
23 seconds into the second period, while on the powerplay, Canucks captain Quinn Hughes recorded an assist on Jake DeBrusk's eight of the season, tying up the game at 1-1 and breaking Alex Edler's franchise record in the process.
Hughes wasn't done there though as less than a minute later, while still on the powerplay, he threw a puck on net where it was put home by Jake DeBrusk, giving Vancouver a 2-1 lead.
It's been remarkable to see Quinn Hughes' rise up the franchise leader boards in the past couple of seasons and the fact he's only in his sixth full season makes it even more incredible.
To put what Hughes is doing into perspective, it took Alexander Elder parts of 15 seasons with the Vancouver Canucks to reach 310 assists, while for the Canucks captain, it's taken a little over five season.
When Hughes' career is all said and done, he's going to certainly be talked about as one of, if not the greatest player this franchise has ever seen and Canucks fans are very luck to be able to watch him play on a nightly basis.
From all of us here at Canucks Daily, we'd like to send a big congratulations to Quinn Hughes for breaking this franchise record on Sunday.
