NHL Insider and reporter for the Athletic Patrick Johnson reports that the Vancouver Canucks are interested in outbidding other NHL clubs to acquire New York Rangers defenseman Will Borgen.
Ever since the NHL season kicked off for the Vancouver Canucks, it was clear that there is a glaring hole on their blue line, on the second paining to be exact, but general manager Patrik Allvin has been patient to find the right deal.
Vancouver Canucks Looking at Acquiring Will Borgen from the New York Rangers?
Per Chris Johnston of The Athletic, Canucks management are getting increasingly more aggressive to land an upgrade for their blue line, and Will Borgen could be a solid candidate.
The 26-year-old is known for his strong defensive play, particularly in penalty-killing situations, an area where the Canucks could use reinforcements. Johnston writes, «Borgen will have plenty of suitors ahead of the deadline, but there may not be anyone more motivated to pursue him than Vancouver.» - Patrick Johnston
The issue is, the New York Rangers are going to be asking quite a bit for the youngster for multiple reasons.
The Rangers are not looking to move on from him, especially after trading away former #2 overall pick
Kaapo Kakko for him.
Borgen has a unique combination of size, elite skating, and physical presence, which has made him a popular name on the trade market, but, with the Canucks getting more and more aggressive, they could have the will to trade for him, and outbid for him if that's the case.
