Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua has been named the team's nominee for a major National Hockey League award, which will be handed out this spring.

It's been a tough season for Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua, which started back in training camp after he announced that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer over the summer and understandably, wouldn't be ready to go for opening night.
Joshua worked his butt off over the next two months following the announcement of his diagnosis and made his return to the Vancouver Canucks lineup on November 14th against the New York Islanders.

Dakota Joshua named Vancouver Canucks' Nominee for NHL award

The morning after Vancouver's come from behind win in Dallas, which saw them erase a three-goal deficit in the final minute of the third period, there was some big news announced regarding Dakota Joshua.
According to Patrick Johnston of The Province, Vancouver Canucks forward Dakota Joshua is the team's nominee for this year's edition of the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy.
For those who aren't familiar with the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, it's handed out annually to the player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the game of hockey.
"It's not a season I want to remember. It's obviously an honour to be nominated for the award, but I wish I could have put forth something better. It means a lot just to be able to play and continue on the dream of playing in the NHL." Joshua said according to Johnston.

The Dearborn, Michigan native hasn't had the season he obviously wanted to in terms of production as he's registered just 12 points (six goals, six assists), along with 38 penalty minutes and is a minus-14 in 53 games.
If Joshua does end up being this year's recipient of the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy, he'll be the first player in Vancouver Canucks history to win the award.
As for when Vancouver Canucks fans can expect to hear who wins the award, that likely won't come until at some point in mid-to-late May.
