NHL Officially Axes Three Referees from officiating the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs

The 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs are officially underway and the league has The has announced the referees who will be officiating the most important games of the year, and three notable names have been left off the list.

It is known fact that NHL referees play a major part in the outcome of the winner in an NHL game, even more so when it is in the playoffs.
It is because of this notio, n that when it comes to postseason games, officials change the way in which they call the game, allowing players to take some liberties and play harder with out the repercussions of serving a 2-minute minor in the box.

Three NHL referees excluded from officiating the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Because of the impact they have, they are afraid of botching the outcome, and referees do not want to be the reason a team wins or losses the game based on a questionable call.
Just like their are All-Star hockey players, the All-Star officials, and if your name is called upon to ref the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it means you are above the rest and
can be counted on in the most stressful situations.
Per Scouting the Refs, the NHL confirmed the list of NHL referees given the task but there are three names from last year's playoffs who have been excluded from this year's playoffs.
Jake Brenk, Francis Charron, Gord Dwyer, Eric Furlatt, Trevor Hanson, Jean Hebert, Frederick L'Ecuyer, Pierre Lambert, T.J. Luxmore, Peter MacDougall, Wes McCauley, Jon McIsaac, Kendrick Nicholson, Dan O'Rourke, Brian Pochmara, Garrett Rank, Kyle Rehman, Chris Rooney, Graham Skilliter, Francois St. Laurent, Furman South, and Kelly Sutherland.

It was spotted that Steve Kozari, Chris Lee and Tom Chmielewski were not chosen. Although Kozari's is due to injury, Chris Schlenker, Corey Syvret have been named as backup Referees, in case of an injury or illness.
