In a recent mailbag on Canucks Army, Jeff Paterson was asked if the team has any additions up their sleeve throughout the summer and he shared what they could be looking for.
Paterson says that the door may be open to add a puck-moving defenceman, but added that the search for one many carry into the 2024-25 season if they're unable to find someone in the coming weeks and months.
There's still a number of puck-moving defenceman available on the free agent market that will likely coming with varying costs. Currently, the Canucks have $240,833 in cap space according to CapFriendly, but also have $2.5 million available too once Tucker Poolman is placed on long-term injured reserve once the season starts in October.
Among potential options for the Canucks include Tyson Barrie, Oliver Kylington, Calen Addison and Adam Boqvist. Daily Hive also mentioned Tony DeAngelo, Justin Shultz and John Klingberg as other possibilities.
It'll be interesting to see if Patrik Allvin brings in another defenceman before the season starts or if he'll decide to sign someone to a professional tryout contract (PTO). That way they can see what the play does in training camp and pre-season games before deciding to sign them to a contract for the 2024-25 season or releasing them to become an unrestricted free agent again.
