In a post on X on Wednesday, the Canucks announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year contract worth $775,000 with defenceman Mark Friedman, who was less than two weeks away from hitting the free agent market.
Patrik Allvin commented on the signing, saying that Friedman is a team-first player and they expect him to come into training camp this fall and compete for a spot on their opening night roster for the 2024-25 campaign.
Friedman, 28, was traded to the Vancouver Canucks in October 2023, along with prospect Ty Glover, from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Jack Rathbone and Karl Plasek.
The Toronto native appeared in 23 games in the NHL this season for Vancouver, putting up one assist, 21 penalty minutes and was a plus-four while averaging 12:14 time-on-ice per night. Friedman also skated in six AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Abbotsford where he had four points (one goal, three assists), four penalty minutes and was a plus-four.
