Patrik Allvin hints at where Aatu Raty's future will be: Interesting idea
General Manager Patrik Allvin says the Vancouver Canucks would prefer Aaty Raty's development to continue at a certain position this season.
Vancouver Canucks prospect Aatu Raty had a strong 2023-24 season, registering 52 points (18 goals, 34 assists) in 72 games with their AHL affiliate in Abbotsford and for this year, expectations will be sky high for him to produce offensively once again.
Raty is likely to start the 2024-25 season down in Abbotsford once again, barring any injuries to the Canucks' roster during training camp, and the team is hoping that the Finnish forward will continue his development by playing down the middle, the position he started the year at.
In an interview with Thomas Drance of The Athletic, Patrik Allvin was asked about Aatu Raty's development and which position the team is hoping him to play at going forward after finishing the 2023-24 season on the wing, to which he said he wants him playing centre.
"Yes. And if I have it right, he was one of our stronger faceoff guys in the American League. So I want to continue to play him at centre. It's easier to go to the wing than it is to move back to the middle. So if he can continue to play in the middle, we'd prefer to see him develop there." Allvin said according to Thomas Drance.
It's going to be a big season for the Oulu native and it started at the 2024 Young Stars Classic this past weekend where he played primarily on a line with Jonathan Lekkerimaki and Arshdeep Bains. Raty will be give ample opportunity during preseason games to prove himself to the Canucks and while he's likely Abbotsford bound to start the 2024-25 campaign, there's no doubt we'll see him up in Vancouver at some point, especially if he plays the same way he did last year.
