The off-season is almost over as the Vancouver Canucks will open training camp in 48 hours in Penticton, British Columbia and there's plenty to keep an eye on as the team takes to the ice.
Among the biggest news surrounding the Vancouver Canucks in recent weeks is the health of star goaltender Thatcher Demko, who suffered back-to-back knee injuries during the latter stages of the regular season and then again during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against Nashville.
Several reports have come out in recent weeks about Demko's status with some suggesting that he may have to deal with this knee issue for the rest of his career and that he may not be ready for training camp and preseason games.
In an interview with Thomas Drance of The Athletic, Vancouver Canucks General Manager Patrik Allvin gave an update on Thatcher Demko.
Allvin said that the team will know more about Thatcher Demko's status within the next few days once the players go through their medicals and that if he's not ready, they may need to bring in a local goaltender to camp, with that being completed on Sunday with the PTO signing of Dylan Ferguson.
We'll have to wait and see what the Canucks' medicals show regarding Thatcher Demko's recovery from his knee issue, but it doesn't sound positive as of right now, especially if the Canucks needed to bring in Dylan Ferguson on a professional tryout contract. All Canucks fans are hoping that if Thatcher Demko happens to be out, that he'll be able to return early on in the 2024-25 season.
