Pius Suter adresses his upcoming free agency status: Excited to get started
Swiss forward Pius Suter recently shared how he feels about being a Vancouver Canuck in recent interview with the German NHL.com.
Vancouver Canucks forward Pius Suter recently sat down with NHL.com's German site for an interview where they discussed a number of topics including how he feels to play for the organization.
Suter said that he thinks his first season with the Vancouver Canucks in 2023-24 was pretty good, but added that he could've done better statistically. Suter dealt with a lower-body injury in November, which kept him out of the lineup for 14 games.
"I would say it was pretty good. Solid. I was also happy with the success as a team.
Yes, I would agree. I think I could have done a bit better in terms of stats. But in terms of playing, it was pretty good." Suter said.
When asked about his future with the Canucks given that he's an unrestricted free agent next July, Suter said that he loves playing in Vancouver. He mentioned that he's focusing on playing well this season and hopes to sit down with the team to discuss a new contract before he hits the open market on Canada Day 2025.
"I love playing in Vancouver. I really like it here. We'll see how it goes. I'm concentrating on playing well again, being successful with the team and getting off to a good start. Personally too, but one usually goes hand in hand with the other: if the team plays well, everyone plays well. Everything else will become clear. Maybe there will be a point in the summer when we can sit down together." Suter said.
Suter, a native of Zurich, Switzerland, appeared in 67 games last season with the Canucks where he put up 29 points (14 goals, 15 assists), 16 penalty minutes and was a plus-17. He went on to add three points in 13 games during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
