The Vancouver Canucks kicked off a five-game road trip on Monday night with a stop in Montreal where they faced the Canadiens at the Bell Centre.

Coming into Monday's game, Rick Tocchet's group have been struggling mightily, winning just two of their previous ten games and looked to get back into the win column against a young Canadiens team who are trying to prove everyone wrong.

It was a back and forth contest between the two Canadian teams, with Vancouver leading Montreal 3-2 after the second period before Martin St. Louis' group tied things up to force overtime in the final frame.

The Canadiens began overtime on the powerplay after Nils Hoglander was called for interference on Josh Anderson with just over 30 seconds remaining in regulation.

On the powerplay, Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki found the back of the net for his 12th of the season, giving the Habs their eighth win in ten games and putting them into the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.

Rick Tocchet happy with J.T. Miller's Performance against Montreal Canadiens

After the loss, Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet met with reporters where he was asked about J.T. Miller, who stood out during the game, registering two goals and two assists for his team.

Tocchet said that Miller is starting to find his game now after a tough start to the season, partly due to an injury and taking a leave of absence, adding that he had a "hell of a game" against Montreal.

"He's trying to do the right things. He had a tough start with training camp, a couple of things were bothering him, obviously when he was out for about a month." Tocchet said.

He added, "He's starting to find his game, he played a hell of a game for us tonight."

With his four-point effort last night, J.T. Miller is now back to a point-per-game during the 2024-25 season, sitting at 29 points (nine goals, 20 assists) in 29 games.

It hasn't been an easy time for J.T. Miller this season, and with his name being mentioned in trade rumors, performances like last night will make it harder for Patrik Allvin to move on from him.

The Vancouver Canucks will look to bounce back on Wednesday night as they head to D.C. to take on Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals. Puck drop is set for 4:30 pm PT and can be viewed across Canada on Sportsnet.
